MATERIALS MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING SCHEDULE & MINUTES

The Meetings of the Materials Management Committee for the County of Houghton will be held in the Conference Room on the fifth floor of the Houghton County Courthouse. All meetings will be at 10:30 a.m.

In the event of changes of dates for meetings, or any Special Meeting, the change or other meeting date will be posted, and if necessary, advertised.

Building Demolition

Entire Building Demolition Job Rules
EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2020

• Asbestos Abatement Clearance letters and Survey must be given to Transfer Station manager 2-3 days prior to demo for landfill approval

• All customers must call ahead for schedule availability to dump once approved

• Building demolition debris is only accepted Tuesday through Thursday -- loads will not be accepted after 3:30 p.m.

• Only ONE demo accepted at a time with prior approval

• Availability to dump depends on capacity at the Materials Management Station

• No building demo jobs accepted the entire month of May

Failure to follow these rules will result in losing the privilege to bring building demolition to the Materials Management Station.

Any load turned away has the option to bring their demolition to K&W Landfill in Greenland.

Rates

Method of payment: Cash, check, or card

All trucks containing building materials will be weighed.

• Minimum Scale Fee

  • $10.00

• Prepaid Bags

  • Blue Prepaid Bags: $20.00

  • Silver Prepaid Bags: $15.00

• Bagged Garbage Pricing
  
  Bagged garbage pricing will be updated to the following three options:

  • Small: Up to 30 gallons: $2:00

  • Medium: Up to 40 gallons: $3:00

  • Large: Over 40 gallons: $4:00

• Cars & Truck Recycling:
  
  Car and truck recycling pricing will be consolidated into the following structure:

  • Cars & Trucks: $20.00

  • Vehicles With a Trailer: $30.00

• Removal of Punch Cards

  • With adapting to the new system, removal of punch cards will better help us track customers and services purchased

• Construction & Demolition (C&D) Waste Surcharge
  
  A new surcharge will be added for Construction & Demolition (C&D) waste. This surcharge will help offset the cost of a new mini excavator, as well as the additional labor and fuel required to handle and process C&D materials. The surcharge will be based on the type of vehicle or trailer:

  • Vehicles: $5.00

  • Single-Axle Trailer: $10.00

  • Dual-Axle Trailer or Small Dump/Box Truck: $15.00

  • Dump trucks: $20.00

• Chair: $5.00

• Loveseat: $8.00

• Couch: $10.00

• Small mattress/box spring (each): $6.00

• Large mattress/box spring: $10.00

• Water heater, washer, dryer, stove (each): $10.00

 Also available for your convenience:

• Used oil collection center**

• Metal recycling**

* Fast/Easy -- No need to pre-pay attendant before dumping, price includes cost of bag and garbage disposal.

** Metal and oil-collection center open for use when facility is open.

Items not accepted include:

Tires, batteries, paints/chemicals, yard waste, refrigerators/freezers, air conditioners, any items containing asbestos and blow insulation.
